Maybe not long before the physical SIM card slot is something from the past – at least as far as it concerns the iPhone. While the previous rumors have signaled Apple’s intention to drop a SIM slot and only rely on ESIM, a new report said this phase-out can begin with several iPhone 14 models. If the news today turned out to be accurate, then the iPhone 14 lineup will be a big step towards Apple dropping Fully physical SIM.

This report comes from Macrumors, who receives documents from anonymous tips that indicate that Apple will launch the ESIM iphone on September 2022. The time period is parallel to the expected expression of the iPhone 14 family, indicating that some or all cellphones in the line will lose the physical SIM slot that supports ESIM.

There are several things that need to be considered about this report. First, assuming these tips is anonymous with macrumor and not just us, it is difficult to know whether this contact is a reliable source. Secondly, Macrumor said that the document leaked did not mention Apple or iPhone specifically, even though it also said that the document “seems legitimate.”

Macrumor refers to the previous rumor that claims that the transition to ESIM – will only occur with the iPhone 15, so even if it doesn’t happen with the iPhone 2022, there are some suggestions that Apple tries to make an immediate switch. The modern iPhone has supported ESIM in addition to physical SIM, and in fact, the iPhone 13 lineup can use dual SIM with two ESIM cards, making it the first iPhone to do so.

Another iPhone that comes from the iPhone XR has a multiple SIM mode that supports ESIM but requires another SIM into a physical Nano-SIM card. So, we slowly see Apple build support for ESIM on a modern iPhone, but hasn’t taken a leap and makes ESIM the only SIM format supported by his cellphone.

For now, however, we will say to take these rumors with a grain of salt, at least until there are more leaks and strengthening evidence. Apple will probably plan an ESIM transition for the iPhone, but the document that indirect gives the name of the company or an iPhone with a name is not the hard evidence we are looking for.

However, it is not difficult to imagine the future in which the physical SIM slot disappears not only from the iPhone but from smartphones in general. The big question is when the switch occurs, and assuming the current report out, Apple can have a ongoing transition for his cellphone at the beginning of next year. We will tell you in both cases, so stay here for more, or just drop down iPhone 14 leaks of the current rabbit hole.
