It’s been several years since we heard from Ar Company Vuzix. In early 2019, he came out with a pair of smart glasses ready for the first consumer. After a relatively quiet stay over the past two years, now partnering with Verizon. Both of them did not share a lot of detail about their collaboration. What they say is that they plan to find a way to commercialize AR technology for use in sports and gaming scenarios, especially those involving the need for training. The partnership will combine the smart glasses of new vuzix shields and 5G Verizon network capabilities.

It’s hard to say if we will see something that has an impact on this agreement, but it’s not a surprise to see Verizon become more involved in AR technology. Augmented, Virtual WeaTable and a mixture of reality have been consistently positioned as one of the main beneficiaries of increased speed and latency promised by the 5G network. Likewise, focusing on games and sports is also not surprising. Some of the earliest locations where Verizon has 5G services at the NFL Stadium. They are one of the few places where the spread of MMWave operators shine because there is enough density there to justify building all the small cells needed to equip even small areas with 5G ultrafast coverage.
